Awai Oohoshi is a first-year student at Shiraitodai High School in West Tokyo and a supporting character in the manga "Saki". She is confirmed to be a powerful opponent and during her match in the West Tokyo's finals, Awai's hair was shown waving and behind her was flaring with a night sky look. She is said to be Miyanaga Teru's successor and acknowledged as one of the few amazing 1st years, along with Miyanaga Saki. Awai was one of the few players who sensed it when Komaki Jindai fell asleep and hit Yuuki Kataoka with a sanbaiman. Power: Awai's current revealed power is called 'Zettai Anzen-ken' - 'Absolute Safety Zone', making all her opponents have bad starting hands (ex: 5-6 shanten). Sumire stated that in Shiraitodai only Takami's 'Harvest Time' ability can overcome Awai's passive power, in which she is genuinely surprised that Himeko is able to get 2-shanten starting hand, making Sumire remarking later that 'Mairu and Himeko's combination is stronger than Awai's Absolute Safety Zone'. She also possesses the ability to get kan ura-dora when she wins, but it's easier to avoid than her Zettai Anzen-ken ability.
