Hannibal, son of Hamilcar Barca (248–183 or 182 BC), commonly known as Hannibal (in Punic: ḤNBÊ»L ḤannibaÊ»al or ḤannibaÊ»l, meaning "Ba'al is/has been gracious" or "Grace of Baal" or perhaps ḤannobaÊ»al, with the former meaning, or, finally, ʼDNBÊ»L ʼAdnibaÊ»al, meaning "Ba'al is my lord"; in Greek: Ἁννίβας, Hanníbas) was a Carthaginian military commander and tactician who is popularly credited as one of the most talented commanders in history.
