Ushiro Jun's little sister who was often abused by him but never complained. Kana allowed Jun to abuse her because she knows the truth about his origin - that he is in fact not her blood relation at all and that he was adopted. Kana still considered him to be her brother, and even went so far as to request that his birth mother be found. Jun's birth mother was revealed to in fact be Tanaka. In the manga, her battle was known in advance to be an "away" battle. The Japanese military was nervous about relying blindly on her ability due to her age, so they worked with Koemushi to figure out a loophole: for away battles, only whatever can fit in the cockpit can be transported with them, so they decided to take a fighter plane. Tanaka was the pilot, and during her run she promised Kana that if she survives she will tell Jun the truth that she is his birth mother. As Tanaka was about to die, Kana herself revealed the truth to Jun. Filled with rage over Tanaka's death, Kana quickly defeated the enemy.
