Maria was one of the children who were once slaved by Gaspard. Like Lise, she sold flowers in the streets of Paris. Maria and Remi also became friends. After Gaspard was arrested by the Paris policemen, Maria and the rest of the children who once suffered under Gaspard were adopted by the real mother of Remi, Mrs. Milligan.
