A high-school student with a subconscious, suicidal desire to be killed by something stronger than him, Saotome Masami reacts with disappointment ever time he narrowly avoids death. Saotome ends up allying himself with the Manticore, trying to help her to take over the world and kill Echoes. The reason for his partnership with the Manticore seems to be the same reason he confessed to Nagi Kirima, he wants to be killed by something stronger than him.
