One year after the events of the First Cycle, Tetsuro has returned to Earth only to end up chained in his home in Megalopolis. It is then that Maetel appears before him once again, offering him the opportunity to join her on a new journey - one she claims will lead him to his destiny.

The series initially ended in 1981, however after fifteen years Leiji Matsumoto returned to his series in 1996, moving the internal timeline on one year from where the story had previously drawn to a close.

The second cycle makes up volumes 15-21, and the first five volumes of the second cycle were released in English by Viz.
